NVIDIA revealed benchmark results for its new RTX 50 series GPUs running DLSS 5 in NBA 2K27, reporting hundreds of frames per second at various resolutions while noting a 50-60% average performance cost.

NVIDIA disclosed early performance figures for its RTX 50-series graphics cards running the newly introduced DLSS 5 technology, using NBA 2K27 as the reference title. Tests were performed with DLSS 5 enabled, ray tracing on, ultra graphics preset and Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) set to 6x mode.

At 1080p, the entry-level RTX 5060 achieved over 250 fps, while higher-end models ranged from 300 fps to more than 500 fps. For 1440p, NVIDIA recommends the RTX 5070 and above; the RTX 5070 posted around 260 fps and the RTX 5090 exceeded 500 fps. At 4K resolution, the RTX 5080 averaged 233 fps and the RTX 5090 reached roughly 370 fps, with the company suggesting that a reduced 4x MFG mode could still support 240 Hz displays.

NVIDIA said DLSS 5 is its most complex model to date, trained and executed in FP8 on the fifth-generation Tensor cores found in RTX 50 GPUs. The company acknowledged an average 50-60% performance impact, which it mitigates through extensive use of MFG across the product line. The technology runs on the current frame without additional systematic latency, though the model’s computation adds some delay.

Developers will have direct control over DLSS 5 integration via NVIDIA’s Streamline toolset, allowing a simple on/off toggle for end users. Customization and modding of DLSS parameters remain possible but are not part of the native implementation. NVIDIA emphasized that the model does not scale with the number of masks or groups defined by developers, and performance remains consistent across its three variants (A, B, C).

Since its initial showcase at GTC in March 2026, NVIDIA has accelerated DLSS 5 optimizations, reducing the model size and improving speed by up to five times, now enabling operation on a single RTX 5090 instead of dual cards. The company indicated further updates are planned later in the year to enhance both performance and visual quality.

"DLSS 5 runs on the Tensor cores and leverages the fifth-gen Tensor core from the Blackwell series. There is no additional systematic impact like in frame generation; all extra latency comes from the model itself," a NVIDIA spokesperson said.

DLSS 5 will be available in NBA 2K27 starting 3 September, with broader game support expected as developers adopt the tool.
