J.J. McCarthy Secures Spot on Vikings' 53-Man Roster
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been included on Minnesota's initial 53-man roster, though he will not start in Week 1.
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy has been listed on the Minnesota Vikings' initial 53-man roster, according to reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter. He lost the starting competition to Kyler Murray during the summer and will serve as a backup for the opening game. Head coach Kevin O’Connell indicated the team could retain four quarterbacks on the active roster, with Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer also expected to remain. The final depth chart for Week 1, as the Vikings prepare to face the Green Bay Packers, will clarify each quarterback's role.
"We want to have depth at the quarterback position and keep our options open," O’Connell said in a recent interview.
