Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo charged with OWI and related offenses

Resumen

Tony Romo faces three charges, including operating while intoxicated, after a July traffic stop in Milwaukee County, and has been placed on leave by CBS.

Tony Romo, a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst, was charged on Aug. 27 with unsafe passing on the right, possessing an open container of alcohol and operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) following a July 23 traffic stop in Milwaukee County. Police stopped Romo traveling southbound on I-43, noting unsafe passing and a cut across the gore, and found an open container in the passenger seat. Body-camera footage released on July 28 shows Romo refusing a breathalyzer and performing poorly on standard field sobriety tests before being placed in the police cruiser. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21.

CBS placed Romo on leave on July 31. The network’s sports president said the decision reflects concerns about the company’s image and brand. J.J. Watt was assigned to work alongside Jim Nantz in Romo’s absence.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed personal support for Romo, praising his character and resilience in a recent interview.
