Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo arrested for suspected impaired driving in Milwaukee
CBS analyst and ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was booked on a charge of operating while intoxicated after a traffic stop in Milwaukee, and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21.
CBS football analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee on suspicion of impaired driving, according to Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records. The 46-year-old was stopped on southbound Interstate 43 at about 6:18 p.m. Central Time after performing poorly on standardized field-sobriety tests and was booked on one count of operating while intoxicated. He was released and ordered to appear in court on Sept. 21, which coincides with the NFL’s Week 2 games.
Romo was in Milwaukee to compete in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship at West Bend Country Club, where he posted a four-round total of 319, tying for 73rd place. After the tournament, he gave an interview to local NBC affiliate WTMJ, noting his competitive nature in both golf and football.
"I’m competitive in both," Romo said. "I am just better at football. But I think we’re gaining strides."
He also told the station’s sports director that his goal as a broadcaster is to help viewers learn and enjoy the telecast.
"For me, it is always making the viewer learn something or enjoy the telecast," Romo said.
A CBS Sports representative declined to comment on the incident, and it was not immediately clear whether Romo has retained legal counsel.
