CBS Sports and Tony Romo End Partnership After DWI Arrest
CBS Sports announced that Tony Romo will not return as an NFL analyst following his July arrest for driving while intoxicated, and the two parties have mutually agreed to part ways.
CBS Sports confirmed on Friday that it and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo have mutually agreed to end their relationship, with Romo not returning as an NFL game analyst. The decision follows Romo's arrest on July 23 in Milwaukee for driving while intoxicated, after officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and he performed poorly on field-sobriety tests. Romo pleaded no contest on Sept. 1, resulting in a six-month revocation of his driving privileges, a court-ordered ignition-interlock device, completion of an alcohol assessment program and a $784 fine.
"CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward," the network said in a statement.
J.J. Watt will remain the lead analyst for CBS, a role he assumed when Romo was placed on leave earlier in the season. Romo issued a statement saying he will take time off to focus on his health and family before deciding on his next opportunity. He expressed gratitude for his nine years at CBS and support from his family, friends, the NFL community and fans.
Romo, 46, retired after a 13-year career with the Cowboys that included four Pro Bowl selections.
