Pogacar extends Vuelta lead with dominant solo win on stage four

सारांश

Tadej Pogacar won the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Espana by more than two and a half minutes, increasing his overall lead to over three minutes.

Tadej Pogacar secured a solo victory on the 104.8km mountainous fourth stage of the Vuelta a Espana, finishing two minutes and 39 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. The win expanded his general-classification lead from nine seconds to three minutes and 21 seconds, putting him in a strong position to retain the red jersey through the remainder of the race.

Pogacar attacked with about 50km left, breaking away from the peloton and riding alone for the rest of the stage. He described the performance as a chance to "be calm and confident for the next days" and noted that the effort was "tough but a beautiful day out there."

The stage followed a cancelled third day that had been abandoned due to severe hailstorms in the French Pyrenees. Lorenzo Fortunato led the first mountain pass, but Pogacar surged ahead on the second climb, at one point holding a lead of nearly three minutes before a chase group reduced the gap. Jarno Widar finished second, while fellow Slovenian Primoz Roglic moved into second place overall, ahead of Spaniard Enric Mas.

Stage five, a 173.3km hilly route from Falset to Roquetes, is scheduled to start on Wednesday as the race moves toward Spain's east coast.
