Pogačar wins Stage 6 on Tourmalet and reclaims yellow jersey
Tadej Pogačar attacked on the Col du Tourmalet, soloed to victory in Gavarnie-Gèdre and retook the Tour de France lead, finishing 2:38 ahead of Jonas Vingegaard after six stages.
Slovenian rider Tadej Pogačar launched a decisive attack five kilometres from the summit of the Col du Tourmalet, breaking away from the lead group and riding alone for 43 kilometres to win Stage 6 in Gavarnie-Gèdre. The victory gave him a 2:38 advantage over Jonas Vingegaard and restored the yellow jersey, putting him 2:42 ahead in the general classification after six stages.
Pogačar said the win was "one of the sweetest" of his career and described the day as exciting for his UAE Team Emirates squad. He added that the team rode with a "nothing to lose" mentality and praised their collective effort.
Vingegaard, who finished second, acknowledged a difficult day, stating, "It was a very tough day… I couldn't follow the big attack on the Tourmalet and had to settle within my own pace. I'm disappointed, but I still believe in myself and that my legs will get better throughout the race."
The stage, covering 186.2 km from Pau to Gavarnie-Gèdre, also featured the Col d'Aspin and several breakaway attempts, but none survived the decisive moves on the Tourmalet. Former yellow-jersey holder Torstein Træen was dropped early and later crashed on the descent, finishing well behind the leaders.
