Kansas City faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a preseason matchup that produced several playmaking moments, including a record-breaking 69-yard field goal and effective pass rush. Defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah recorded his first preseason sack, suggesting progress for the former first-round pick. Defensive end R. Mason Thomas and rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane displayed speed and playmaking ability, with Thomas nearly returning an interception for a touchdown and Delane showing strong coverage skills.
Wide receiver Jalen Royals led the Chiefs with 51 receiving yards, catching all six of his targets, while wide receiver Cyrus Allen and running back Brashard Smith contributed on gadget plays and special-teams duties, indicating potential versatility for roster decisions.
Conversely, offensive lineman Kahlil Benson struggled in pass protection amid injuries to senior linemen, and special-teams coordinator Dave Toub faced criticism after penalties on most returns and a missed extra point by kicker Harrison Butker. Cornerback Kristian Fulton, defensive end Ethan Hurkett and quarterback Justin Fields were also identified as having subpar performances, with coaches expected to reassess their roles moving forward.
