Backup quarterback Joe Milton leads Cowboys to 24-6 halftime lead in preseason win over Cardinals
Joe Milton III threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Dallas Cowboys built a 24-6 lead at halftime against the Arizona Cardinals in a preseason game.
Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer started third-year quarterback Joe Milton III in the preseason matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 22, as starter Dak Prescott rested. Milton accounted for all three first-half touchdowns, throwing a 53-yard pass to wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and completing a second touchdown pass before rushing for a two-yard score on a quarterback draw. The Cowboys led 24-6 at halftime. Milton remains the backup on the depth chart and will stay in that role unless an injury to Prescott occurs.
"We want to see what our players can do in game situations," a team spokesperson said. The performance gives the organization confidence in its quarterback depth heading into the regular season.
