Worcester police seek husband’s wife after patrolman found dead
Police in Worcester, Massachusetts are searching for Karen Solomon, who left the scene shortly before her husband, veteran officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead. Authorities have released video of her departure and say she may be armed.
Police in Worcester, Massachusetts are actively looking for 58-year-old Karen Solomon, who left her home just before officers discovered the body of her husband, 57-year-old patrolman Kurt Solomon, early Tuesday. Video released by the Worcester Police Department shows her walking away from the house at about 5:41 a.m., dressed in a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops, roughly ten minutes after officers responded to an emergency call from the residence. The department warned that she is considered armed and dangerous and asked the public to remain vigilant.
Kurt Solomon had served the department for 31 years and was a father of two adult sons; the cause of his death has not been disclosed. While no charges have been filed against Karen Solomon, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said she is being sought for questioning in connection with the case.
Prior to the investigation, Karen Solomon was known for her advocacy work on behalf of first responders. She founded the nonprofit First H.E.L.P., which aims to reduce stigma surrounding mental-health issues among police and other emergency personnel and to raise awareness of suicide risks. She authored two books, "Hearts Beneath the Badge" and "The Price They Pay," both dealing with law-enforcement mental-health challenges, and she has been involved with national police-suicide prevention groups. In 2023, she received a Community Hero Award from the Greg Hill Foundation for her work supporting first responders.
Officer Thomas Duffy, president of the local police union, described Kurt Solomon as a distinguished officer nearing retirement.
