Fourth week of Lindsay Clancy murder trial begins in Plymouth Superior Court

The trial of Lindsay Clancy, accused of first-degree murder of her three children, entered its fourth week of testimony, with prosecutors possibly concluding their case on Monday.

The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy resumed Monday in Plymouth Superior Court, marking the fourth week of witness testimony. Judge William Sullivan indicated that the prosecution could finish presenting its evidence that day, after which the defense would be permitted to call its own witnesses.

Clancy, 36, has pleaded not guilty to the killings of her three children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan—who died in their Duxbury home on Jan. 24, 2023. Prosecutors Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham contend that Clancy planned the murders and later staged a suicide attempt.

The defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, argues that Clancy should not be held criminally responsible because she was overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis.

Digital-forensics expert Ian Whiffin of Cellebrite was the first prosecution witness called on Monday. He testified that he retrieved Apple Health data and other digital records from the family’s home on the night of the killings, as well as search queries from Clancy’s iPhone. The queries included questions about Wellbutrin, sleep deprivation, ketamine for suicidal ideation, and symptoms of postpartum psychosis.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Clancy faces life imprisonment without parole. A jury finding her not criminally responsible would result in her being committed to a state psychiatric hospital.
