Seahawks sign Devon Witherspoon to four-year, $132 million extension, making him highest-paid cornerback
Seattle gave Devon Witherspoon a four-year, $132 million contract with over $101 million guaranteed, setting a new record for average annual value at the cornerback position.
Seattle Seahawks announced a four-year extension for cornerback Devon Witherspoon worth $132 million, including more than $101 million guaranteed. The deal averages $33 million per year, surpassing the previous record for the position.
According to league sources, the contract makes Witherspoon the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, resetting the market for the role. The prior benchmark was set by Cleveland Browns' Denzel Ward, whose average annual value stood at $31.1 million. Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie follows closely with a $31 million average annual value from a recent four-year, $124 million deal.
"Witherspoon has been a key component of Seattle's defense," a team spokesperson said.
The extension comes after Witherspoon, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 draft, contributed to the Seahawks' defensive unit that performed strongly in the recent Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
