Seahawks sign cornerback Devon Witherspoon to $132 million extension
Seattle gave Witherspoon a four-year, $132 million contract, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, while also extending other recent first-round picks.
Seattle announced a four-year extension with cornerback Devon Witherspoon, valued at $132 million and including more than $101 million in guarantees. The deal sets a new record for total value and average annual salary at $33 million, surpassing previous contracts for the position.
Witherspoon, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 draft, has earned Pro Bowl honors each season and a second-team All-Pro selection in 2025. In 43 career games he has recorded 32 pass breakups, 16 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and nine quarterback hits, and contributed to Seattle’s playoff run with four pass breakups, a sack and three QB hits.
"I think what gets lost is what their role is as leaders on our team and how young they are," defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald said at the NFL’s spring meeting in Phoenix.
The Seahawks also exercised the fifth-year options on Witherspoon and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, keeping both under contract through 2027, and have recently extended left tackle Charles Cross and other recent first-round selections.
