Seahawks evaluate former Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold amid pending felony charges

Summary

Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said the team held a tryout for Terrion Arnold, who faces multiple felony robbery and kidnapping charges, and emphasized due-diligence before any decision.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the team held an official tryout for former Detroit Lions first-round pick Terrion Arnold, who is awaiting arraignment on several felony robbery and kidnapping charges in Florida. Arnold, a former Alabama standout, was released by Detroit after his arrest and is currently out on bail, allowing him to travel for work.

"It’s enough right now that we had him in for a great visit, a great tryout," Macdonald said, adding that the organization is aware of the surrounding circumstances and is working through them. He said the team will conduct thorough due-diligence and consult people who know Arnold before making any decision.

"We’re going to do our due diligence," he added, noting that the Seahawks respect those close to Arnold and will consider their input.

Defensive backs coach Karl Scott, who recruited Arnold to Alabama, is expected to be consulted, though he did not coach Arnold at the college level. The Seahawks have recently added several cornerbacks through the draft and free agency, and currently have Josh Jobe and Devon Witherspoon as the only confirmed starters.

Macdonald expressed confidence in the existing defensive backfield and said the team will continue its usual approach regardless of the outcome of Arnold’s tryout. Arnold is also scheduled to meet with the New Orleans Saints after a prior meeting with the Houston Texans.
