Seahawks negotiate contract with former Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold amid legal issues

Summary

Seattle is in talks to sign former Detroit Lions first-round pick Terrion Arnold, but his pending felony charges mean he would start on the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the team has reached a contract agreement with former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold, but finalizing the deal is delayed while they determine the appropriate timing for his arrival. > "We’re working through that and when’s the best time for him to come in, but we have an agreement with him and we’ll see," Macdonald said.

Arnold faces eight felony charges in Florida related to an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping, with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 5. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport noted that, because of the pending legal matters, Arnold would be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List once he signs with a team. The list, designated by the league commissioner for “unusual circumstances,” allows a player to attend meetings, participate in workouts and receive treatment, but prohibits participation in games or practices. The duration of the exemption is at the commissioner’s discretion and could extend until Arnold’s legal proceedings conclude.

Despite the uncertainties, the Seahawks have indicated they still plan to sign Arnold, though it remains unclear when, or if, he will be eligible to play for Seattle this season.
