Eagles report progress at training camp as quarterbacks and offense show improvement on Day 7

Résumé

Philadelphia Eagles’ Day 7 practice featured productive work from quarterbacks Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee and Andy Dalton, while several position players earned positive notes from observers.

Philadelphia Eagles coaches observed a productive Day 7 at training camp, noting that the team’s top three quarterbacks and the offense as a whole performed well. With wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Makai Lemon unavailable and Dontayvion Wicks missing most of the session, quarterback Jalen Hurts distributed the ball to several targets, completing passes to Elijah Moore, Dallas Goedert, Darius Cooper, Hollywood Brown and E.J. Jenkins, and also demonstrated mobility with a run that evaded Cooper DeJean.

"He has gotten into a habit of rolling to his right and throwing across his body, which has been successful so far, but the staff may want to address it before it becomes a habit," an observer noted.

Receiver Darius Cooper, initially not projected on the 53-man roster, impressed with consistent catches and blocking, ranking third among receivers in camp behind Smith and Wicks. Second-team quarterback Tanner McKee delivered his best performance to date, connecting on a sideline throw to Danny Gray and a fade route to Johnny Wilson that resulted in a contested catch near the end zone. Wilson also secured a go-route reception against Mac McWilliams.

Quarterback Andy Dalton, despite limited arm strength, continued to demonstrate accurate timing, repeatedly delivering throws at the 14-yard line to various targets.

The offense showed additional positive signs, including effective blitz pickups by running backs Saquon Barkley and Will Shipley. Defensive linemen Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis were noted for their pass-battering technique, with Davis explaining that players watch for the quarterback’s non-throwing hand to anticipate a pass.

Backup lineman Willie Lampkin, a 5-foot-11, 290-pound former Rams undrafted free agent, attracted attention for his strength and ability to engage interior defensive linemen in the run game, suggesting a potential roster spot.

Undrafted rookie Kapena Gushiken forced a fumble and recovered it after a reception by E.J. Jenkins, highlighting his speed despite modest size.

Center Cam Jurgens left practice early for medical evaluation, while Zach Berman reported he walked unaided. Jake Majors filled in at center. After a four-day absence, Lane Johnson returned to the facility but did not participate in drills, with rookie Markel Bell taking his snaps.
