Eagles hold sixth training-camp practice as injuries and roster battles shape lineup
Philadelphia Eagles completed Day 6 of their 2026 camp, with several players on the injury list, a reduced-intensity session, and competition emerging at receiver, tight end and quarterback positions.
The Philadelphia Eagles ran their sixth practice of the 2026 training camp on Wednesday at the Jefferson Health Training Complex. Tackle Lane Johnson missed his fourth consecutive session for a non-injury reason, while left guard Landon Dickerson took a rest day after a previous leg issue. Wide receiver Britain Covey joined the injury list with a hamstring strain, and other players including DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby and safety Cole Wisniewski remained sidelined.
Coach Nick Sirianni scaled back intensity after two days of full-pad drills, opting for a 75-minute shell-only session. Quarterback Sean Mannion’s unit showed improved execution, prompting defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to comment, "> I told him we obviously got the best of yesterday’s practice by a long shot. But that’s the way it’s been the last two years in training camp – the defense has gotten the best of the offense. So, not to be too concerned."
With several defensive starters held out of team drills, the offense faced a lighter front, allowing rookie guard Markel Bell and second-year lineman Drew Kendall to fill in for Johnson and Dickerson. The receiver competition remains open; rookie Dontayvion Wicks has made a strong case for the No. 2 slot behind DeVonta Smith, benefiting from familiarity with a Kyle Shanahan-style system and a developing rapport with Jalen Hurts. Darius Cooper appears poised to secure a roster spot, while veterans Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore have been less impactful in camp.
Tight ends Dallas Goedert and E.J. Jenkins saw increased targets in seven-on-seven drills, with Goedert catching multiple passes early in the session. Second-round rookie Eli Stowers, a recent convert from quarterback to tight end, received limited snaps as he continues to learn blocking techniques.
The run game featured Saquon Barkley, who struggled to find space on carries, and backup running back Will Shipley, who displayed two strong inside runs. Defensive linemen Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo made notable plays against the Eagles’ offensive line.
In the secondary, Michael Carter II earned praise from Fangio and may compete for a nickel safety role, while linebacker Chance Campbell received a vote of confidence for a roster spot. Quarterback competition intensified as Andy Dalton logged more repetitions than Tanner McKee, with Dalton connecting on several short routes during the session.
Overall, the Eagles used the day to manage injuries, assess depth-chart candidates, and balance practice intensity as the new-look offense continues to calibrate.
