Eagles short practice highlights strong showing by Jalen Hurts and Andy Dalton, struggles for rookie QBs
In a brief one-hour, fifteen-minute session at the Eagles' training camp, quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Andy Dalton impressed, while rookie Cole Payton and tight end Stone Smartt had less successful outings.
The Philadelphia Eagles held their shortest on-field practice of the training camp on Wednesday, lasting just over an hour. Quarterback Jalen Hurts displayed his dual-threat ability, completing a precise deep pass to Dallas Goedert and a solid throw to Dontayvion Wicks, and scrambling twice when the offensive line collapsed. > "Hurts is at his best when he's a true dual-threat quarterback," the report noted.
Veteran Andy Dalton also performed well, appearing comfortable in the pocket and delivering the ball accurately in the team's new offense, positioning him ahead of Tanner McKee in the competition for the backup quarterback role.
In contrast, recent draft pick Cole Payton struggled with accuracy, throwing several risky passes that were either dropped or intercepted, including a deep throw into triple coverage that was caught by cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields. Tight end Stone Smartt missed a wide-open pass that could have resulted in a significant gain.
The practice provided limited material for analysis but highlighted the emerging hierarchy among the Eagles' quarterbacks and underscored areas for improvement among the younger players.
