Multiplayer game 'Big Walk' challenges players to cooperate in open-world puzzles

摘要

House House's new multiplayer-only title, Big Walk, requires groups of two to twelve players to solve puzzles that cannot be completed alone, emphasizing coordination and communication.

House House, the studio behind Untitled Goose Game, released Big Walk, a cross-platform multiplayer adventure that can be played by two to twelve participants. The game features a realistic open world dotted with brightly coloured cartoon structures that serve as puzzles; each puzzle must be solved by multiple players and rewards a collectible referred to as a "bean." Collecting enough beans allows access to a "Bean House" that unlocks new areas.

Progress is tied to the host’s save file, meaning players must return to the same host to continue. Early gameplay experiences reported by a group of four players highlighted the reliance on in-game walkie-talkies and proximity chat, as well as the need to navigate a day-night cycle that includes dark sections requiring a flashlight.

Players described several moments of miscommunication, such as losing walkie-talkies after a fall, becoming stuck in terrain, and failing to hear each other’s signals across the island. One participant noted that the game deliberately limits communication options, forcing teams to coordinate through visual cues and external messaging platforms.

"The puzzles are designed so that no single player can solve them, which encourages players to narrate actions, boost each other onto ledges, and share information," a player said.

The design aims to make the world feel large and occasionally baffling, while ensuring that failure carries no health penalty. Reviewers observed that the difficulty stems from logistical challenges rather than combat, and that the cooperative nature distinguishes the experience from single-player puzzle titles.

Although the requirement to play with the same group repeatedly may pose scheduling challenges for adult players, the developers intend this limitation to reinforce the game's core theme of collective problem-solving.
