Packers Day Six of Training Camp Highlights Defensive Plays and Roster Updates

Resumen

Green Bay's sixth open practice featured a pick-six by defensive end Barryn Sorrell, strong performances from rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse and receiver Skyy Moore, and lineup adjustments on the offensive line.

Green Bay held its sixth public training-camp practice on Aug. 4 at Ray Nitschke Field, lasting just under two hours. The team will have a day off on Aug. 5 before a closed session on Aug. 6, with the next fan-open practice scheduled for Family Night at Lambeau Field.

Defensive end Barryn Sorrell intercepted a screen pass from quarterback Jordan Love and returned it about 60 yards for a touchdown, marking a notable play for the second-year player. Sorrell also performed well in a one-on-one matchup, beating Darian Kinnard on a bull rush and later limiting Jordan Morgan on the outside.

Rookie cornerback Brandon Cresse faced receiver Savion Williams three times in coverage drills and prevented any completions, earning praise from head coach Matt LaFleur, who described him as an "A-plus human" with high potential. On offense, veteran receiver Skyy Moore displayed quickness that challenged defensive backs, beating safety Kitan Oladapo on a double move and outpacing rookie corner Domani Jackson on a slant. Receiver Jayden Reed also recorded several catches.

Defensive back Benjamin St-Juste recorded a sack on quarterback Tyrod Taylor for the second consecutive day, a play that defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon appears to favor. The 28-year-old, acquired in free agency, may see increased blitz opportunities under the new scheme.

The offensive line saw rookie Jager Burton return from a hamstring injury to start at left guard, joining Jacob Monk at right guard and Anthony Belton at right tackle. Burton, a fifth-round pick, won his first 1-v-1 matchup against fellow rookie Dan i Dennis-Sutton.

First-round draft pick Jordan Morgan impressed at left tackle, holding his own against fellow first-rounder Lukas Van Ness in three 1-v-1 reps. The team’s injury report listed several players on the physically unable to perform list and others with non-football injuries.

Coach LaFleur addressed rookie kicker Trey Smack’s inconsistent practice performance, noting that the true evaluation will come in preseason games and the regular season. He emphasized that the situation is a work in progress, especially with long-snapper Matt Orzech unavailable due to a calf injury.

The Packers’ preseason schedule begins with an away game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 13, followed by contests in Denver and Arizona later in the month.
