Greek police detain 26-year-old in murder of British woman found in suitcase

摘要

Greek authorities have arrested a foreign national who confessed to killing a 38-year-old Scottish woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase in Athens, and he faces homicide, robbery and weapons charges.

Greek police arrested a 26-year-old foreign national on suspicion of killing 38-year-old Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a Scottish citizen whose body was found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens' Kypseli district on July 18. The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime said the suspect confessed to the homicide, robbery and firearms-related offenses after investigators linked him to the crime scene. > "It emerged that the [suspect] placed the body in a suitcase and transported it to the abandoned premises. Furthermore, in the days that followed, the 26-year-old used the victim's bank cards to withdraw sums of money," police said. The suspect claimed the victim was already dead when he discovered her, though officials did not confirm that detail. A replica pistol and a knife were seized from his residence. International cooperation, including assistance from Interpol and law enforcement agencies in the United States and United Kingdom, helped identify the victim despite advanced decomposition.
