Greek police arrest Afghan suspect in murder of British woman found in suitcase

摘要

A 26-year-old Afghan national has been charged with homicide, robbery and weapons offenses after confessing to the killing of a 38-year-old British woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase in Athens.

Greek authorities have arrested a 26-year-old Afghan man and charged him with murder, robbery and illegal weapons possession in connection with the death of a 38-year-old British woman whose remains were found inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens' Kypseli district in July. The victim, identified as Elisabeth-Jane Ross from Scotland, arrived in Greece on June 26 and stayed with a friend in Piraeus before disappearing on July 10.

Investigators from the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime used forensic analysis, including fingerprint identification and video surveillance, to link the suspect to the crime. Police said the suspect admitted to placing the victim’s body in the suitcase and moving it to the site, then using her bank cards to withdraw cash. A search of his residence uncovered a replica pistol and a knife, leading to additional weapons charges.

The case was handled by the Department of Crimes against Life and Personal Freedom, with assistance from Interpol, the UK National Crime Agency and Police Scotland. The suspect has been presented to the prosecutor’s office.
