Giants suspend Harrison Bader's salary pending scooter accident investigation
San Francisco placed outfielder Harrison Bader on payment suspension after a scooter crash aggravated his existing foot injury, with the club awaiting further details.
San Francisco announced on Friday that it is suspending salary payments to outfielder Harrison Bader while it investigates a scooter accident that occurred over the weekend and worsened his pre-existing plantar fasciitis. The club said the incident delayed Bader’s treatment timeline and his return to the field.
"Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison's prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field," said Buster Posey, the Giants' president of baseball operations. "We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident, but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the Club."
The suspension affects roughly $1.5 million in earnings for the remainder of the 2026 season; Bader is owed $10 million for the second year of his two-year contract signed in January. League sources said the club remains concerned about the condition of his left foot and the potential impact on future payments.
Bader reportedly crashed his scooter in the Marina district around 2 a.m. on Saturday night, shortly before a scheduled visit to a foot specialist in Indianapolis. He has not spoken to reporters since the incident, though he visited the ballpark on two occasions afterward. The MLB collective-bargaining agreement requires written permission for players to engage in high-risk activities, and the Giants determined the scooter ride fell within a disallowed category, prompting the payment hold.
