Giants outfielder Harrison Bader sustains additional foot injury in scooter accident

摘要

Harrison Bader aggravated his existing left foot problem after a late-night scooter crash, prompting further medical evaluation and delaying his recovery for the San Francisco Giants.

San Francisco outfielder Harrison Bader aggravated a pre-existing left-foot injury in a scooter accident late Monday night, according to the Giants. The incident occurred before he was scheduled to see a foot and ankle specialist in Indianapolis for plantar fasciitis that has kept him out since May 30. After the crash, Bader returned to San Francisco, consulted team orthopedist Dr. Ken Akizuki and was slated for an MRI to assess the damage.

"Obviously, he’s not better than he was prior to that," manager Tony Vitello said. "It’s going to delay the recovery process for him, but even prior to it, you’re looking at a pretty frustrating long runway."

Bader, who signed a two-year, $20.5 million contract in January, has appeared in only 30 games this season due to hamstring and foot issues and is batting .170. The latest injury adds to a series of setbacks for the Giants, who also reported a torn meniscus for infielder Casey Schmitt and announced pitcher Trevor McDonald will undergo Tommy John surgery. The team currently sits 16 games below .500 as the trade deadline approaches.
