State Department to Issue Additional 250,000 Limited-Edition Passports Featuring Trump Portrait

Résumé

The U.S. State Department will make 250,000 more commemorative passports with President Trump’s image available at in-person events in August and September, after strong public demand.

The State Department announced on Thursday that it will expand the distribution of limited-edition U.S. passports that display a portrait of President Donald Trump. The additional 250,000 passports are intended to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary and will be offered at scheduled in-person application events in August and September across 19 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Appointments must be made by phone; the passports will not be issued to applicants who apply by mail, online, at post offices or at U.S. embassies abroad.

The commemorative design includes Trump’s portrait, his signature, and the text of the Declaration of Independence on the front, with an image of the founders signing the document on the back. The passports are provided at no extra charge.

A department spokesperson said the expansion follows more than 30,000 calls to the passport call center since July 4 from individuals seeking the special edition. The White House has referred to the items as “patriot passports.”

The first batch of about 40,000 passports was released in early July at the Washington Passport Agency, drawing interest from supporters of Trump and prompting complaints from some applicants who expected a standard passport.
