George and Amal Clooney evacuate French home amid widespread wildfires

Resumen

The actors and their twins left their residence in Brignoles, France, as wildfires spread across southern Europe, expressing concern for local residents and pledging to support the community.

George and Amal Clooney have left their home in the town of Brignoles, located in France’s Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, as wildfires continue to blaze across southern Europe. In a letter to Brignoles mayor Didier, the couple said they hope the town’s residents remain safe and affirmed their commitment to the community, writing, "We love Brignoles and our friends who live there."

The fires, which have affected France, Spain, Italy and Greece, are reported to be covering an area four times the size of Paris. French authorities have evacuated roughly 3,000 people in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, while 224,000 were moved from the Gironde area. In Spain, more than 63,000 residents have been displaced, and two firefighters died in Greece.

The Clooneys, who also own properties in England, Italy and the United States, have previously spoken about choosing a rural French estate for family life, citing a desire for a more private upbringing for their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella. Their evacuation underscores the broader impact of the wildfire season on both residents and high-profile visitors in the region.
