Robinson and Gibbs Skip Practice Amid Contract Negotiations

Summary

Running backs Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs are holding out of training camp as they negotiate extensions, prompting no immediate changes for fantasy managers.

Both the Detroit Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs and the Atlanta Falcons' Bijan Robinson did not report to practice on Wednesday while their respective teams discuss contract extensions. Gibbs, a 2023 first-round pick, is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is eligible for a new contract that could exceed $20 million per year, according to ESPN analyst Jeremy Fowler. The Lions have positioned him as the centerpiece of their offense after trading David Montgomery, giving him leverage in talks.

Robinson, who has amassed more than 1,450 scrimmage yards over three seasons and earned first-team All-Pro honors last year, is also in extension talks with the Falcons. Neither player’s absence is expected to affect their status as top-ranked running backs in fantasy drafts, and analysts advise fantasy owners to maintain their current strategies.

"Gibbs could earn more than $20 million per year," Fowler said, noting the potential to match the league’s highest-paid running backs.

The Lions confirmed they have not exercised the fifth-year options for Gibbs or linebacker Jack Campbell, leaving both players under contract through 2027 pending negotiations. Meanwhile, the NFL announced that the Falcons will play the Bengals in Madrid for Week 9 of the 2026 season, marking the league’s second game in the city.

Both teams are expected to continue discussions over the summer, with the possibility of long-term deals being finalized before the 2026 season begins.
