Take-Two CEO Addresses Grand Theft Auto 6 Pricing Speculations
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick discusses the company's approach to pricing for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 amid industry speculation.
Amid industry speculation about potential price increases for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the company's pricing strategy during an investor call on August 7. When questioned about the possibility of an $80 price point for GTA 6, Zelnick emphasized the company's focus on delivering value to consumers.
"We believe that any consumer experience is the intersection of the thing itself and what you paid for the thing," Zelnick stated. "So our goal is to vastly exceed expectations. We want to put out the best entertainment on Earth, and we want to deliver more value than what we charge for it. We think we've generally speaking, gotten that right."
Zelnick also highlighted the industry's history of variable pricing, noting that most frontline releases debut at a higher price, sometimes with special editions, and are typically discounted over time to reach a broader market. He indicated that this approach is unlikely to change soon.
"Variable pricing has been the nature of this industry forever," he added. "You know, most Frontline releases will go out at a higher price, sometimes with special editions, and then over time usually the price is discounted to optimize for the largest possible market. And I don't think that's going to change anytime soon ... The rubric that informs us is really that of delivering more value than what we charge."
Analysts have projected that GTA 6 could be priced at $100, citing its substantial development costs and anticipated revenue. However, Zelnick's comments suggest that Take-Two is cautious about implementing significant price hikes. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
