Mia Bieniemy, 57, was shot at the family home in Loudoun County, Virginia, and is in stable condition; her son Elijah was arrested on charges including malicious wounding.

Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot late Sunday night at the couple's residence in the One Loudoun neighborhood of Loudoun County, Virginia, and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. The incident was reported by ESPN and confirmed by local authorities.

Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. Dispatch audio indicated the victim, matching Mia Bieniemy’s age, was shot in the chest, was conscious but having difficulty breathing, and was shot by her son. Police later arrested Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, on charges that include malicious wounding and use of a firearm in a felony. The Bieniemy family has two sons, Eric III and Elijah.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation after practice, noting that Mia is stable and that the family has a strong support network. He declined to provide further details, saying the team will respect the family’s privacy. A team spokesperson echoed this, stating the club is aware of the incident and offering thoughts and prayers.

Eric Bieniemy was at the Chiefs' training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, when the shooting occurred. Sheriff Mike Chapman confirmed Elijah Bieniemy’s involvement and that the victim was shot twice. No further comment was provided regarding Eric Bieniemy’s return to football duties.
