Chiefs coach says offensive coordinator's wife recovering after shooting
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reported that Mia Bieniemy, wife of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, is improving after being hospitalized following a shooting incident.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Mia Bieniemy, the wife of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, is recovering after being moved out of intensive care. Reid said she is "doing better, great from where she was" and that she continues to make progress. He added that Eric Bieniemy remains by her side, which he described as an important factor.
With Bieniemy absent from the first full-team practice of training camp, the Chiefs relied on pass-game coordinator Joe Bleymaier, run-game coordinator Andy Heck and wide-receivers coach Chad O’Shea to run the offensive drills. Reid said the team will not set a timetable for Bieniemy’s return, focusing instead on his family’s needs. "I just want to make sure she’s taken care of and Eric Junior too," Reid said, noting that Bieniemy can stay updated on the team's film when possible.
The Chiefs plan to continue practice on Thursday, while monitoring the Bieniemy family's situation.
