Taylor Farms issues recall and safety review amid multi-state Cyclospora outbreak

सारांश

Taylor Farms announced a voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce from central Mexico and a review of its safety protocols as U.S. health agencies investigate a Cyclospora outbreak linked to the produce.

Taylor Farms said on Friday it is recalling all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico and has suspended production at its Mexican facility while independent experts review its food-safety processes. The company added that no positive test results have been found in its products to date.

The recall, described as an "abundance of caution," covers lettuce distributed to grocery stores and restaurants in more than a dozen states between June 29 and July 16. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration have expanded the outbreak investigation to nine states, reporting at least 1,947 infections and 98 hospitalizations, with no deaths confirmed.

"IDPH has been closely monitoring the Cyclospora multi-state outbreak that has been happening across the United States and in Illinois," said Dr. Sameer Vohra, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. "July case reports are rising at a level we have not seen since 2018."

The FDA warned consumers not to eat the recalled lettuce and noted that Taco Bell has stopped using the product. Health officials continue to advise washing hands and produce thoroughly and seeking medical care for persistent diarrhea, especially among vulnerable populations.
