Amazon Prime members have until late July to claim refunds from FTC settlement

Resumen

U.S. Amazon Prime customers who enrolled between 2019 and 2025 must submit claims by July 27, 2026 to receive possible refunds of up to $51 under a $2.5 billion FTC settlement.

U.S. consumers who signed up for Amazon Prime through certain enrollment pages between June 2019 and June 2025 have until July 27, 2026 to file a claim for a refund of up to $51. The deadline applies only to customers who have not already received an automatic payment from the settlement fund.

The Federal Trade Commission’s settlement with Amazon, announced in September 2025, requires the company to place $1.5 billion in a consumer refund fund and pay a $1 billion civil penalty, without admitting wrongdoing. The FTC alleged that Amazon enrolled users without clear consent and made cancellation difficult, prompting changes to enrollment disclosures and a simpler cancellation process.

To be eligible, claimants must be U.S. Prime members who used more than three but fewer than ten Prime benefits in any 12-month period and who either enrolled unintentionally or were unable to cancel online. Claims are submitted through the official settlement website, and approved claimants may receive reimbursement by check, PayPal or Venmo, though payment is not guaranteed.

The FTC cautioned consumers about refund scams, noting that neither the agency nor Amazon will ask for payment to release a settlement refund and that promises of guaranteed approval are fraudulent.
