Panthers OLB Nic Scourton Out for 2026 Season After ACL Tear
Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Nic Scourton suffered a torn ACL during the first day of training camp and will miss the entire 2026 season.
Carolina Panthers second-year outside linebacker Nic Scourton was carted off the practice field on Thursday after sustaining a right-knee injury during the team’s opening day of training camp. An MRI performed later that day confirmed a torn ACL, ruling him out for the 2026 season, according to league reports.
Head coach Dave Canales said he did not know the injury’s severity immediately after practice but that tests were scheduled. After the diagnosis, Canales noted the team’s depth and expressed confidence in the roster’s ability to stay competitive. > "We've got depth. That's why we keep bringing in guys. We have guys that we trust," he said.
Scourton, a second-round pick in 2024 from Texas A&M, appeared in 17 games as a rookie, starting eight, and recorded 47 tackles, five sacks and nine quarterback hits. Quarterback Bryce Young, who was nearby when the injury occurred, said he had not seen the play but praised Scourton’s development and leadership on defense. > "It's been really cool to see him come into his own. He has a super-high motor, has great energy. He's fun to be around," Young said.
The injury happened during a block with an offensive lineman on a wet field, and teammates gathered around Scourton before he was taken to the training room. Canales highlighted the camaraderie among the players, saying the shared challenges create a strong bond within the group.
