Aaron Donald's return to Rams remains uncertain as preseason approaches

Resumen

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald is evaluating his fitness after two years of retirement, and no immediate decision on his return to the Los Angeles Rams is expected.

Veteran players on the Los Angeles Rams will report to training camp on Saturday, but the status of former defensive tackle Aaron Donald remains unclear. Donald recently visited the team’s facility to assess his conditioning following a two-year retirement. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said on his podcast that Donald is focusing on regaining football shape and is unlikely to make a quick decision about rejoining the roster.

"Aaron Donald is essentially trying to get himself ready for the upcoming season," Schefter said. "I don’t think, and it doesn’t sound like, we’re gonna get an immediate answer, or an immediate signing, of Aaron Donald. He is too busy trying to get himself back into football shape, to try to regain some of the form he might’ve lost in two years away from football, and he’s not gonna come back until he feels like he’s ready to be Aaron Donald again." If Donald opts to return, contract negotiations will be required, as he retired with one year and $30 million remaining on his deal. Those matters would need resolution before he could line up alongside fellow defensive end Myles Garrett.
