Bald eagle rescued after clash is in critical condition, rehab center says

Resumen

Jackie, the bald eagle featured on a popular livestream, remains in critical condition after an altercation with two younger eagles, with veterinarians reporting severe anemia and kidney inflammation.

Jackie, the bald eagle that appears on a livestream from Big Bear Valley, is being treated at the Ojai Raptor Center after a rescue following an encounter with two subadult eagles. The center said initial blood tests show the bird is suffering from severe anemia and inflammation that is affecting its kidneys, and that further diagnostics are pending. > "We are still working to determine the underlying cause, and additional bloodwork and diagnostic test results are pending," the center said, adding that it is too early to predict the outcome. The eagle is described as alert and eating, and staff have begun supportive treatment based on the information available, with guidance from wildlife experts worldwide. > "Wildlife medicine takes time, and some answers simply cannot be rushed," the center noted.

The rescue team asked the public not to contact the center directly for updates, saying information will be shared through official channels. Friends of Big Bear Valley, the nonprofit that manages the livestream, reported that Jackie appears more energetic, is eating with assistance, and is even picking up food on her own. They also said X-rays showed no foreign objects such as fishing hooks or sinkers.

The incident occurred on July 17 when a video captured Jackie defending herself against the two younger eagles before falling to the ground near Dana Point Park, about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. After local fire officials and the San Dimas Raptor Rescue team stabilized her, she was transferred to the specialized rehabilitation facility.

Jackie had not been seen at her nest for several days prior to the rescue, prompting concern among viewers of the long-running livestream that began in 2016. The eagle and her partner, Shadow, have been followed by fans as they raised two eaglets, Sandy and Luna, who left the nest in June.
