Dispatch audio reveals details of fatal Maryland crash involving actress Kaylee Hottle
Audio from Frederick County dispatch shows first responders seeking a sign-language interpreter and describing heavy front-end damage after a single-vehicle crash that killed actress Kaylee Hottle.
Frederick County emergency dispatch recordings obtained by a news outlet show first responders requesting a sign-language interpreter when they arrived at a crash scene in the early hours of July 21. The victims included actress Kaylee Hottle, who was reported as unconscious, and a passenger who later complained of rib pain.
Dispatchers noted that Hottle, who was visiting the area, was deaf and that her companion did not have family contact information. One dispatcher asked, "> If anybody has access to the interpreter app on the phones, can you please start this way? Because we need a sign language interpreter."
First-responders described the collision as involving "heavy front-end damage" and said the vehicle had left the roadway by about 10 feet before entering a culvert. The crash occurred on Windsor Road in Ijamsville at approximately 2:52 a.m.
A 19-year-old driver of a 1995 Honda Accord was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while another passenger declined treatment. Hottle was taken to a trauma center where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities indicated that excessive speed was likely a contributing factor.
Later in the call, officials spoke with Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, who confirmed the death and said he learned of the incident while in Texas. The crash remains under investigation by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit.
