One dead, four injured in second Minneapolis shooting within 24 hours

Resumen

A gunfight outside a Nicollet Avenue business left one man dead and four others wounded, marking Minneapolis' second mass shooting in less than a day.

Police said gunfire broke out around 8:20 p.m. Sunday outside a business on the 1800 block of Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. Officers found four men, ages 43, 24, 28 and 36, shot at the scene. All were taken to hospital; the 28-year-old later died, while the 43-year-old and 24-year-old sustained potentially life-threatening injuries. A fifth victim, a 26-year-old, arrived at Hennepin Healthcare on his own with a non-life-threatening wound.

Earlier that night, around 12:30 a.m., nine people were shot outside a nightclub in the city's Uptown district. Two of those victims were seriously injured but are expected to survive. No arrests have been reported in either incident, and police say there is no known link between the two shootings.

"This is a stark reminder that keeping our streets safe requires every tool available," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said, adding that the city needs partnerships to arrest perpetrators, more officers, and technologies such as drones and ShotSpotter to improve police effectiveness.
