Kris Jenner posted on Instagram on July 16 that her mother, Mary Jo "MJ" Shannon, died at the age of 91. The family statement included a photograph of Shannon and highlighted her role as the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.
"Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ," Jenner wrote, adding that Shannon had taught her to "love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted." Jenner noted that Shannon had previously appeared in a 2025 episode of the reality series "The Kardashians," where she discussed declining health and mobility challenges following the death of her daughter Karen the year before. In that episode, Jenner described her mother as frail and saddened by ongoing pain. The Kardashian-Jenner family, which includes children and grandchildren such as Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall, Kylie and Rob, issued statements expressing gratitude for Shannon's influence and acknowledging her legacy within the family.
