Conor McGregor defeats by doctor stoppage after knee injury in UFC 329 bout with Max Holloway

Resumen

Conor McGregor suffered a knee injury early in his UFC 329 fight against Max Holloway, leading to a doctor-stopped bout. Officials said the injury appeared to be an ACL tear and was not pre-existing.

Conor McGregor sustained a knee injury within seconds of the opening round of his UFC 329 fight against Max Holloway in Las Vegas, prompting a doctor’s stoppage. The injury occurred when McGregor attempted a head kick and landed awkwardly, causing his knee to buckle repeatedly before the referee halted the contest.

UFC president Dana White told reporters that the injury was likely a torn anterior cruciate ligament and that there was no indication of a pre-existing condition. He added that the high-profile weigh-in video would have shown any prior issue.

After the stoppage, Holloway was quoted as saying, "Let’s give it up for Conor McGregor, guys. What an absolute animal. When we was in here, he kept trying to say I was trying to call our fight, and he kept asking to fight on."

The bout, which was McGregor’s last scheduled fight under his current UFC contract, ends with uncertainty about his future competition schedule pending medical evaluation and recovery.

"I would like to speak with him," commentator Joe Rogan said after McGregor left the octagon.

Medical staff will assess the extent of the knee damage, and McGregor is expected to undergo further testing before any return to competition can be confirmed.
