Joe Rogan attributes Conor McGregor's ACL injury to a jumping roundhouse kick in UFC 329 loss
Conor McGregor suffered a suspected ACL tear after attempting a jumping roundhouse kick in the opening round of his UFC 329 bout against Max Holloway, a point highlighted by commentator Joe Rogan.
Conor McGregor was stopped by TKO in the first round of his UFC 329 comeback fight against Max Holloway after an apparent knee injury. During the post-fight broadcast, commentator Joe Rogan said McGregor’s attempt at a jumping roundhouse kick placed excessive pressure on his knee, leading to the damage.
"He just tried a crazy move. He tried a jumping roundhouse kick… if you don’t land in a good way, with a supporting way, you put so much pressure on that knee. He landed with his knee in the worst position," Rogan said.
McGregor grabbed his knee immediately after Holloway evaded the strike and was unable to continue, prompting referee Mike Beltran to stop the fight. UFC president Dana White later confirmed that doctors suspect an ACL tear, pending imaging confirmation.
Former champion and analyst Daniel Cormier noted that McGregor’s long hiatus from competition may have contributed to the injury, saying returning after an extended break can lead to “things that don’t make sense” in a fighter’s approach.
The loss brings McGregor’s professional record to 22-7. He later posted on social media that he had felt healthy before the bout and expressed disappointment over the injury.
