The S&P 500 index closed the day just below the 5,000 level, near the threshold for a bear market, after a four-day decline of more than 12%. The following morning, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!" and later announced a partial reversal of the tariff plan. The market responded with a roughly 9.5% gain that session, and the index has risen about 50% since the April 8 dip.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said the president’s assets are held in fully discretionary accounts managed by independent third parties and that there are no conflicts of interest. Trump told reporters that outside managers handle his investments and that he does not get involved personally.
The disclosures show Trump bought between $100,001 and $250,000 of shares in Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and Nvidia on April 8. Each of those stocks, part of the so-called "Magnificent Seven," rebounded sharply after the tariff policy was softened, with Apple gaining more than 15% and Nvidia jumping nearly 19% the next day.
