Bunnie Xo Says Mother's Day Argument Prompted Jelly Roll to File Divorce Papers

Summary

The country singer and his wife Bunnie Xo disclosed that a dispute on Mother's Day led to his filing for divorce after nearly a decade of marriage, though they plan to co-parent their upcoming child.

Bunnie Xo told listeners on her "Dumb Blonde" podcast that an argument with husband Jelly Roll on Mother’s Day triggered the end of their marriage. The 46-year-old host said the couple, who married in 2016, had long avoided open disagreements, a pattern she described as "a recipe for disaster."

During the Mother's Day dispute, Xo said she told Roll to "file the f---ing divorce papers," a statement she normally would not make. She added that she packed a bag and left, and the two did not speak for several weeks. "During that, he was so mad and we were so emotional that he ended up doing exactly what I told him to do and filing the divorce papers," she said.

Roll filed for divorce on May 18, listing May 9—the day before Mother’s Day—as the date of separation. The couple, who have an 18-year-old daughter, Bailee, have remained on good terms, according to Xo, who played a voice message from Roll calling her "Mama Bea." They also announced they are expecting another child and intend to co-parent the baby as a united family.

Xo emphasized that the divorce was not mutual, noting that her demand to file was made in anger, but she believes the situation forced both parties to confront underlying issues.
