Body Found During Search for Missing Lexington Personal Trainer

Summary

Police discovered a body matching the description of Elena Katherine Moore, a 39-year-old personal trainer who vanished after leaving a gym in Lexington, South Carolina, on June 11.

Police said a body was recovered on Wednesday in an area where a witness reported seeing Elena Katherine Moore on the day she disappeared. Moore, 39, was last known to have left a Planet Fitness location in Lexington on June 11 and was reported missing the following day, according to the Lexington Police Department.

Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green briefed reporters that officers and fire personnel located the body shortly before 3 p.m., noting that it matched the clothing Moore was wearing when she was last seen. Identification by the coroner is pending, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been asked to investigate the death.

Moore worked as a personal trainer at Wolf's Fitness Center. Surveillance footage captured her signing in at the Planet Fitness at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday and later walking away in the parking lot of a nearby Publix, heading toward Old Cherokee Road at 9:17 p.m., dressed in an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. A tip received on Wednesday placed her near North Lake Drive and Old Cherokee Road, prompting the search in that vicinity.
