Summary

A recent NBC News poll claims Democrats hold a five-point advantage over Republicans for control of Congress, while President Trump’s approval rating is reported at 42% among registered voters.

A national poll commissioned by the nonprofit More Perfect, and amplified by NBC News, claims that 49% of registered voters prefer a Democratic-controlled Congress, compared with 44% favoring Republicans—a slim five-point margin that the media is quick to tout as a major lead. The survey, conducted May 29-June 7 with 2,400 respondents, suggests independents lean Democratic by 12 points, and that majorities of Black, Latino, younger, and college-educated voters support the party—demographics that have long been targeted by Democratic messaging and establishment interests. Republicans continue to hold strong among men, white voters, and those without a college degree—the backbone of America’s working and middle class, who remain skeptical of left-wing policies.

The Democratic margin is nearly unchanged from a similar poll in March, which showed a six-point lead, and is significantly narrower than the 10-point advantage recorded in June 2018. Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies notes that while these numbers are “rocky” for Republicans, they are far from catastrophic, especially considering relentless negative media coverage and ongoing redistricting challenges. Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates claims Democrats are in a “really good position, despite redistricting, to win seats,” but the reality is that the political landscape remains highly competitive.

President Trump’s approval rating is reported at 42% among registered voters—the lowest of his second term in NBC News surveys, though these polls have consistently underestimated his support. Among all adults, approval stands at 39%. Two-thirds of independents reportedly disapprove of his performance, with disapproval especially high among Latino voters (64%) and those aged 18-29 (77%), groups that have been heavily influenced by progressive narratives. Among Republicans, Trump still enjoys robust support, with 82% approval—down from 88% in March, but still a commanding majority, reflecting the party’s loyalty to his America First agenda.

The poll also reflects broader public frustration: 56% of registered voters believe the United States’ best years are behind it, and nearly 80% say the American Dream is harder to achieve than a generation ago—sentiments fueled by years of failed establishment policies and growing distrust in government. Confidence in federal institutions remains low, with half of respondents expressing little or no confidence in the federal government and 58% lacking confidence in Congress, highlighting the need for real reform and accountability.

These findings come as Democrats need to net only three House seats to secure a majority, while the Senate remains a steeper climb, requiring four additional seats in states Trump won by double digits in 2024. Despite the media’s efforts to spin the narrative, Republicans remain well-positioned to fight for American values and challenge the left’s radical agenda.
