Cruise Passenger to Complete 42-Day Quarantine in Nebraska After Hantavirus Exposure
A passenger exposed to hantavirus during a cruise ship journey is determined to complete the full 42-day quarantine at a Nebraska facility to ensure safety for himself and others.
A passenger quarantined in Nebraska after potential hantavirus exposure on a cruise ship has announced his intention to stay for the full 42 days, emphasizing the importance of minimizing health risks to others. Jake Rosmarin, who entered the National Quarantine Unit on May 11, stated, "I want to know when I leave that the chances of me risking other people... is 0%." While 18 passengers were sent to the facility, it is unknown how many will complete the entire quarantine period recommended by health officials.
Following a mandatory 21-day quarantine, some individuals have chosen to return home for self-monitoring for an additional 21 days. The New York State Department of Health confirmed that two New Yorkers will be transported back this week to continue their monitoring outside of New York City. Rosmarin noted the advantages of remaining at the facility, citing access to medical care and the ability to receive testing every two weeks.
In addition to adhering to a strict daily routine to manage his time, which includes exercise and various hobbies, Rosmarin mentioned that he is using a calendar to track his progress. According to the World Health Organization, as of May 27, the total number of hantavirus cases linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship stands at 13, with three reported fatalities.
