UK Police Investigate Potential Iranian Links to Arson Attacks on Jewish Sites in London

British authorities are investigating a series of arson attacks targeting Jewish sites in London, exploring potential links to the group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia (HAYI) and possible Iranian involvement.
The latest incident occurred overnight at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow, causing smoke damage but no injuries. This follows recent attacks, including an arson attempt at Finchley Reform Synagogue and the torching of ambulances owned by a Jewish charity in Golders Green.
HAYI has claimed responsibility for these attacks, as well as similar incidents in Belgium and the Netherlands. The group first appeared on social media in early March, shortly after U.S. airstrikes against Iran.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans stated, "We are aware of public reporting that suggests this group may have links to Iran. As you would expect, we will continue to explore that question as our investigation evolves."
Authorities have made several arrests in connection with the attacks. Two teenagers, aged 19 and 17, were arrested in relation to the Kenton United Synagogue incident. Additionally, six individuals, including two 18-year-olds, were arrested following the attack on the Jewish charity's ambulances.
The Metropolitan Police are considering whether these attacks involve the use of criminal proxies, a tactic previously attributed to the Iranian regime. Evans noted, "We are considering whether this tactic is being used here in London—recruiting violence as a service."
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the extent of HAYI's involvement and any potential connections to Iranian state actors.
