China Condemns US-Israel Military Actions in Iran, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has condemned the ongoing military operations by the United States and Israel in Iran, stating that the conflict "should never have happened." He emphasized that "the world cannot return to the law of the jungle" and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The conflict, which began on February 28, 2026, has resulted in significant casualties and regional instability. Iran has launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East, targeting U.S. bases and Gulf state locations, leading to further deaths, including six U.S. service members.

In response to the escalating situation, China has engaged in diplomatic efforts, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi holding discussions with counterparts from Russia, Iran, Oman, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. He stressed the importance of adhering to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and rejecting the arbitrary use of force in international relations. Wang called for an immediate halt to military operations and a return to dialogue and negotiation to prevent further escalation and spread of the conflict.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has also expressed deep concern over the regional spillover effects of the conflict, emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf states. China commended the Gulf Cooperation Council's emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy as the sole path to overcoming the current crisis and preserving regional security.
