Pavel Durov Plans to Distribute Estate Among All His Children

Résumé

Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of Telegram, plans to distribute his estate among all his children, including those conceived through sperm donation.

Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of the messaging application Telegram, has stated his intention to distribute his estate among all his children, including those conceived through sperm donation. In an interview with French political magazine Le Point, Durov, aged 40, mentioned that he does not differentiate between his legal children and those conceived via sperm donation. He emphasized that all his children will have equal rights to his estate to prevent disputes after his death. Durov disclosed that he has fathered over 100 children through sperm donation over a 15-year period, following a doctor's suggestion to donate due to the quality of his genetic material. He also mentioned that his children will not have access to his fortune until 30 years after his death, aiming for them to lead independent lives. Durov highlighted that his work involves risks, including defending freedoms, which can lead to adversaries in powerful states. He expressed a desire to protect his children and ensure that Telegram remains true to its values. Telegram is known for its encryption and limited content oversight. In August 2024, Durov was arrested in France on charges related to insufficient content moderation on Telegram, including allegations of facilitating money laundering, drug trafficking, and the dissemination of child pornography. He was released on bail and prohibited from leaving France pending further investigation. Durov denied the charges, stating that the presence of criminals on the platform does not implicate its administrators.
