Authorities Investigate Disappearance of Savannah Guthrie's Mother in Arizona

Summary

Nancy Guthrie, mother of 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie, has been reported missing from her Arizona home, with authorities treating the residence as a crime scene.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, mother of 'Today' show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona. She was last seen by family members at her residence around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. Concern arose when she failed to attend church the following morning, prompting her family to report her missing around noon on Sunday.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that evidence found at Nancy Guthrie's home suggests she did not leave voluntarily. 'We do in fact have a crime scene,' Nanos said during a Monday press conference. He noted that Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility but is mentally sharp, ruling out the possibility of her wandering off due to cognitive issues.

Search efforts have included drones, search-and-rescue dogs, and assistance from the Border Patrol. Despite these efforts, there has been no sign of Nancy Guthrie. 'We don't see this as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene,' Nanos added.

Savannah Guthrie, who is in Arizona, expressed gratitude for the public's support. 'On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,' she said in a statement read on the 'Today' show. 'Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.'

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.
