FBI Analyzes DNA Evidence in Nancy Guthrie Abduction Case
The FBI is conducting advanced DNA analysis on samples from Nancy Guthrie's home to identify her abductor.
The FBI is analyzing DNA evidence recovered from the Tucson, Arizona, home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, who was abducted on February 1. A private Florida lab working with the Pima County Sheriff's Department sent the sample to the FBI, which is now using advanced technology to identify the kidnapper. The DNA sample, described as coming from more than one person, may take up to six months to fully analyze, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. Approximately two dozen investigators from the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are actively working on the case. Despite releasing key evidence early in the investigation, including images from Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera, little progress has been made in determining her whereabouts or identifying those responsible for her abduction. Last month, Savannah Guthrie expressed her anguish in an interview, stating, "We still don't know... Honestly, we don't know anything." She added, "Someone can do the right thing."
